Surfing in Croyde Bay
“Croyde Beach is famous in the UK surfing scene for world class, A-frame barrels. Probably the best beachbreak in the UK on its day.” Magicseaweed.com
Croyde beach is a renowned surfing bay and has been the location of the British Surfing Championships on three occasions. The bay offers a wide expanse of golden sand backed by dunes and green fields. The surf in Croyde is famed for the consistency of the waves partly due to the favourable direction Croyde faces into the ocean, receiving swell from anywhere in the North Atlantic.
Croyde Bay is great for all skill levels of surfer, from beginners to advanced surfers. Naturally the bay is also great for bodyboarders and stand up paddle (SUP) boarders.
Anchor Down is a gentle ten minute walk along a footpath to Croyde Bay beach. Saunton Sands and Putsborough Beach are both only a five minute drive away offering alternative locations depending on conditions. Parking is available at both beaches.
If you’re bringing your own surfing equipment, or hiring for multiple days, Anchor Down also has a spacious garage to store boards and wetsuits.
