Food and Drink in Croyde

Croyde is only a small village, but has a number of place to eat out.

The Thatch

Considered as the heart of Croyde, the Thatch is only a 60 second walk from Anchor Down, in fact you can see it out of the shower room window. The Thatch offers a good menu of great pub food, real ales and fine wines. It’s worth checking out the daily specials on the blackboard as there can be some interesting creations on there. They have some great vegetarian options, and if you have allergies or special requirements (eg gluten free) they can usually help out.

The Thatch can get very busy at peak times of the year, especially on Fri/Sat/Sun. It’s worth making a reservation, either by phoning in advance, or dropping in in person as it’s so near, but they can be booked up even a week in advance. However they are great guys and will always try to squeeze you in even if you turn up on a busy night, they often run two evening sittings, so if it’s very busy try to avoid the peak time of 7.30-8.30pm.

Top tip: Sunday 6pm to Friday 4pm they offer two for £14 on selected main dishes!

Billy Budd’s

Billy’s offers plenty of traditional pub grub, burgers, fish and chips, pizzas, great for adults and kids alike. They also have a pool table and show football on a big screen.

Hobbs Bistro

A small, cosy, family run bistro, they have a lot of tasty meat and fish dishes. Again at peak times of year and weekends it’s a good idea to drop in earlier in the day to reserve a table.

Top tip: They can also make pizzas to take away, so if everywhere is busy, or you just fancy chilling out on the sofa with a pizza you can grab one here.

Blue Groove

Blue Groove has a modern feel, has a bar and also an outside terrace, great for a summer evening, or any time of day really as they also have a breakfast and lunch menu.

Top tip: There are specials most evenings, Monday night curry and pint for £12.95 is great!

The Manor

The Manor is another traditional pub, and also the oldest in the area (yes, older than the Thatch!). Turn right at the bottom of Watery Lane and it’s 5 minutes walk down St Mary’s Road. Be a little careful on the walk as there is no pavement. It has a large dining area, safe children’s play area, traditional pub games, and also shows most football matches on Sky and BT Sport. It’s a good alternative to the Thatch, especially at busy times of year.

Popup Pizza

During the summer in the post office car park at the bottom of Watery Lane you can often find a popup stall which will be able to custom make you a fresh pizza within about 15 minutes, worth checking out!
